Presentations
The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center staff and trained student ambassadors provide engaging educational presentations on a wide variety of personal finance topics. Presentations are perfect for academic classes, student organizations and clubs, and departmental events. Sessions range from 30 minutes to 1 hour and are offered year-round in person, online via Zoom, or hybrid. Requestors may choose from a list of ready-made topics, and complete their booking via the Center's request form, You Can Book Me. Questions about presentations can be directed to finlit@psu.edu.
- Minimum 7 days advanced booking required
- Requestors will receive a confirmation email immediately upon booking
- Presentations can be canceled or rescheduled directly from the confirmation email
- Instructors or event coordinators are expected to remain present for the duration of in-person and online sessions
Webinars
Free monthly webinars via Zoom are offered by staff covering a variety of personal finance topics. Webinars are open to the public and held every other Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. EST during the fall and spring semesters. Participants can join live from any device or view past recordings on the Center's YouTube. No registration is required. Interested in a webinar for your class, organization, club, or department? Workshops
The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center staff offer workshops for select personal finance topics. Workshops are interactive, hands-on instruction that asks participants to engage in individual skill building on financial topics. Workshops are ideal for smaller academic classes, student organizations and clubs, and departmental events of less than 30 people. Depending on the workshop topic, sessions range from 1 hour to multi-part series. Workshops are offered year-round in person or online via Zoom. Available workshop topics are listed below in further detail. Financial Foundations Workshop Series
Financial Foundations is a five topic workshop series hosted by the Penn State Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center. The series covers core personal finance topics that create a strong foundation on which learners can build their financial futures: budgeting, credit, debt, saving, and investing. Learners who complete the series are awarded a micro credential badge that can be displayed to their academic and professional community. The workshop series consists of five 1-hour group sessions OR three 2-hour group sessions with an instructor (held over Zoom or in person) and three short online learning assignments (30-45 minutes per assignment). The objective of the workshop series is to increase students' understanding and practical application of personal finance skills through guided instruction and hands-on practice.
Salary Negotiation Workshop
Effectively navigating salary negotiation is an important skill for today's workforce. Participants will learn effective negotiation strategy and practice the steps to 1) learn their value, 2) negotiate salary and benefits, and 3) communicate effectively with potential employers. This workshop can be run in 75 - 90 minutes (split between two sessions, if necessary) and open to groups of less than 45 people.
